One of the themes in my book "Dark Angels and Maggot Pie" is the remnants of bigotry, especially in small town America where generations of family have grown up in the same place with the same influences.  The attached article makes the "Dark Things" blog because, as a 10 year partner in a mixed marriage, I feel we are truly in dark times if this behavior is allowed to continue.  Thankfully, it appears that most people are as outraged as I am.

  1. The various civil-rights acts which started in the 60's, did much to diminish open prejudice and change the outward behavior of people. Unfortunately, the attitudes of many regarding race, which can be concealed, has not made the same progress over the years. When issues like the one you read about come to light, it provides an opportunity for it to be dealt with in a number of ways. Your greatest concern should be about those who speak one way and think the opposite, and since no sunshine is cast on a person's hidden thoughts, you should find this more "scary."
